What we did on our February Holiday Club

February Drama & Creative Arts Holiday Club

February half term was great fun this year. Our Viking theme went down a storm with the children. Each day we explored a different story through drama and improvisation, followed by a creative arts make. You can see in the pictures examples of what we made and the creativity each child displayed - Our youngest child was 4 and oldest 11 years.

We had five full days available and each one was busy, in fact it was our busiest holiday activity apart from Summer School. We'll be running all week during each of the half terms now plus Easter and also we have 3 weeks of Summer School to look forward to.

The weather was kind to us. It was dry all week - that has to be a first in recent times. It was also sunny most of the week but became gradually colder and  the wind picked up. But that didn't put off the kids who enjoyed playing outside during breaks - well, most of the time.

Thanks to our assistants this week: Rory, Adam, Gracie & Emilly.

Parents really appreciate what we do on our holiday activities. We combine experienced teachers with young assistants. Our week is thoroughly planned out and each day is different but we also allow for children's ideas and input and incorporate them into our day. We ensure our creative makes are high quality and we build in additional activities to
take on board different ages, interests and skills.

This is what made Intrepid an award-winning company in arts & education - our attention to detail, our creativity, organisation and meeting the needs of children and parents.

So, next up is Easter Holiday Club and we will be running Tuesday 2nd - Friday 5th April and you can book now office@intrepidinspires.co.uk

Our Early Bird Summer School offer will be available shortly too, so look out for that.

New look for YPT (Youth theatre)

YPT - spring term 2013

It always feel great when you have something new to wear. YPT's new look black T Shirts with our logo embroidered into the top left have given our young people something to wear with pride.

We've got a great bunch attending YPT this term. We focus their energy, encourage them to lead and make creative decisions and guide them towards performance each term.

This spring has a skills focus and leads towards recognition of their efforts with our award for progression - Intrepid Steps. Plus, they can opt to take a Trinity Guildhall accredited award.

Trinity Guildhall http://www.trinitycollege.co.uk/ offer young people a practical and engaging way to develop and seek accredited recognition, which can be practically used as points towards UCAS applications further down the line.

Charlie, YPT's leader and main Theatre Centre teacher has recently graduated from www.cssd.ac.uk and comes equipped with fine training in drama and theatre. Charlie first came to Intrepid as a 13yr old, attending our youth theatre. She's returned many times since and now she is the latest addition to our skilled team.

Now check out these great shots from James McCauley http://www.jamesmccauley.com/ of YPT in their new T shirts.

To join YPT and find out about all we do, email Richard office@intrepidinspires.co.uk

Theatre Centre - Aladdin production December 2012

The genie of the lamp
Aladdin - the boy who followed his dreams

Aladdin was performed on Sat 8 Dec to a lovely audience at the All Saints Centre, Lewes.

The children & production team all worked their socks off to produce a wonderfully colourful show - we even had a few of those random onstage moments that brought a chuckle from the audience and also spontaneous applause for acting moments.

Jaffar in the background
Our very young cast, aged from 4 years (Reception aged children) to 10 years (Year 5) were mostly new to performing on stage. We usually perform in traverse ( on the floor of the main hall) and all our young actors are visible throughout the performance. As the venue had just fitted new retractable seating we felt compelled to use the stage for the first time in many years.

Prince Ali - trying to impress the Princess
We created a thrust to enable to enable the children to perform closer to the audience, so their voices could be heard clearly. The back of the stage was brought forward by using a white cloth screen that spanned the majority of the stage. This worked when lit from the front, with colour, but behind to enable us to cast a shadow of the image of Jaffar and the Princess; it also enabled us to create images of the palace, the mountains, the enchanted garden and a town-scape.

The genie of the ring with Aladdin
All the costumes were hand made by Ann Martin, a local seamstress, who has her own Aladdin's cave of materials. Intrepid now have a substantial stock of costumes, props and also set materials. We are really bursting at the seams!

Director & writer: Alison West
Main teacher: Charlie May Hill
Teaching Assistant: Rory Bines-Morris
Lighting by Pete Olsen, Set design & painting by Cassandra Joucerand.
ASMS: Gracie & Esme
FOH: Millie, Tamara & Adam

Photographs - the very talented James McCauley kindly took a few shots of the final rehearsals and here's a few here for you to enjoy.

Looking forward to spring term 2013
