Theatre Centre - Aladdin production December 2012

The genie of the lamp
Aladdin - the boy who followed his dreams

Aladdin was performed on Sat 8 Dec to a lovely audience at the All Saints Centre, Lewes.

The children & production team all worked their socks off to produce a wonderfully colourful show - we even had a few of those random onstage moments that brought a chuckle from the audience and also spontaneous applause for acting moments.

Jaffar in the background
Our very young cast, aged from 4 years (Reception aged children) to 10 years (Year 5) were mostly new to performing on stage. We usually perform in traverse ( on the floor of the main hall) and all our young actors are visible throughout the performance. As the venue had just fitted new retractable seating we felt compelled to use the stage for the first time in many years.

Prince Ali - trying to impress the Princess
We created a thrust to enable to enable the children to perform closer to the audience, so their voices could be heard clearly. The back of the stage was brought forward by using a white cloth screen that spanned the majority of the stage. This worked when lit from the front, with colour, but behind to enable us to cast a shadow of the image of Jaffar and the Princess; it also enabled us to create images of the palace, the mountains, the enchanted garden and a town-scape.

The genie of the ring with Aladdin
All the costumes were hand made by Ann Martin, a local seamstress, who has her own Aladdin's cave of materials. Intrepid now have a substantial stock of costumes, props and also set materials. We are really bursting at the seams!
