Intrepid's Circus of Skills

Our Theatre Centre spring term finished on Sat 24th March - our earliest presentation for a year or two. It was a great term for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it was simple. Three large hoops, some poi and an inspired dynamic space (for audience and performers alike) with the audience seated in a horseshoe; there was also some excellent choices of soundtrack, inc the Bond theme.

Secondly, the performers each did themselves proud. Regardless of age, each took direction well, got themselves off script and worked as a team throughout. It was a joy to behold.

Thirdly, we introduced our re-worked Intrepid Steps, a structured progression of skills. There are three steps per age group and to earn a level each child fulfills a set number of the identified skills.

The feedback from parents was very positive. Here's one of the comments we received,

“The Intrepid Steps are both detailed and well observed, frequently re-enforcing her school progress reports with the added emphasis on softer skills like listening and providing feedback to peers . Allie & the team have Elly down to a tee!”

Here are some of our Intrepid kids with their certificates (Look how they are holding them so proudly).

It really felt like spring this term. We had lots of newcomers; on the Lewes classes particularly. The focus on the individual gave our new members a great opportunity to show everyone who they were and what they could do and for our established members, it was a chance to bring their own material to class and to demonstrate how much they have learnt over the previous terms.

A good proportion of children joining Theatre Centre stay with us for many years. Many make the journey from our First Stage (4-7s) class to our Centre Stage (7-11s) class. At the moment we have bunch clocking up 6 years. Now, we take that as a compliment and we also recognise and acknowledge the commitment parents show towards their kids. Thanks again, mums, dads and carers.

Here's one of our lovely parent's recent comments,

My daughter, now 10, has been with Intrepid since she was 4! She is as enthusiastic now as the day she started, and loves the entire creative process of working with a team to prepare the end of term presentation.

Summer term sees us revive our outdoor performances. To make it a time for celebration and enjoyment we will invite our audience to bring a picnic. Of course, we've already put our request in for a warm and sunny day.

Interested in your child trying out on Theatre Centre? Summer term starts in the first week back after Easter. Contact us now to find out more details and to book yourself in.

Young Creative Talent & Experienced Hands

Young Creative Talent
Last year, we were busy preparing for the delightful Theatre Centre, First Stage (4-7s) show, The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies and Mrs Tittlemouse.

For the presentation we requested the making of a delightful cake - sadly not edible but certainly looking good enough to eat. Here it is,
It was made by Victoria Watson, who worked for Intrepid as a young designer, before leaving to study Illustration and Visual Communication at Westminster Uni.

Victoria also made lots of carrots and lettuce - which of course the flopsy bunnies ate and then feel asleep, exhausted, in Mr McGregor's vegetable patch. Here are some of the made items,
And it doesn't end there. For our Centre Stage (7-11yr olds), we presented the well-loved classic, The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde. Allie West's inventive and sensitive adaptation was complimented by Victoria's puppets, as seen here,
I am of course forgetting those lovely bunny ears (not from the The Selfish Giant of course) but from the Flopsy Bunnies.

Intrepid are one of the leading employers and hosts for talented young people in Sussex working in the creative arts.

We take young people for first time paid work opportunities, volunteers and as Interns. They come with enthusiasm and a talent and leave with experience and a new found focus.

If you know a talented young person (16-25 years) with particular skills in creative arts such as needlework, craft work, puppetry and design - then please ask them to contact us. We can provide not just expert mentoring, support and guidance but also lots of opportunities to express their creativity plus bags of materials and equipment. Heaven, for the right person.

Experienced Hands
There is just no replacing experience. We try to give as much of it as possible and our skills set offers most young people the support they need. However, when it comes to creative arts - specifically the craft part of the trade (as it were), we would love to have some local experienced hands that are willing and able to support young talent.

If you have a few hours to offer and are open to bartering - then please do contact us on 01273 476 226 or 07840 166 947 and speak to Richard.
